On 2nd September 2019 our founder Roger Bernard Crossland will celebrate 45 years as a Bookseller.
On that day in 1974 at the age of 16, he started working for W H Smith (Wholesale) Limited, at Wellington Bridge Industrial Estate, Leeds.
He then went on to open his 1st Bookshop (with the help of his parents) in Garforth, Leeds, during May 1987.
Although that Main Street Store has now closed, it remains to be run online successfully by him today.
In 1999 Roger was the very first person in the world to sell Book Tokens via the internet and currently he and his partner, with their business The Token House Partnership, are the leading independent supplier of National Book Tokens and National Theatre Tokens, to businesses, schools, colleges and universities, plus the general public, across the globe. They constantly offer the consumer more free Book Token gift card designs than anywhere else online. Also most books are cheaper than Amazon, when paying in full online by credit card or debit card at their 'books etc' area within firstbookshop.com : Read 'Our Story' here -
